I selected Chris to tutor me in Organic Chemistry because of his rapid response to my inquiry and extensive credentials. Chris and I went back and forth a little bit on the phone before meeting in person to figure out a compatible schedule for us to meet. He was pleasant and very professional on the phone. I spilled my heart out saying that I needed to pass just one more Organic Chemistry class before I could be done with it forever. He listened and came up with a plan to tackle all of the things I was struggling with. We met at Barnes and Noble that was about 25 mins away so it was convenient. Pros: Chris knew his field real well and he had good tricks to helping me learn some of the key concepts. His notes were clear and thorough. He used many different colors, which made complex reactions easier to understand. He arrived on time and made good use of the two hours. I had a very busy schedule and I liked that we scheduled a different time to meet at the conclusion of each session instead of having a set day/time. Cons: Chris sets up two-hour sessions instead of one hour. This might be okay for most people, but I felt as though I did not get the most out of the sessions because I got a little overwhelmed /mentally drained with all new information thrown at once. My college’s organic chemistry course is 45 minutes and that was more than enough time to learn new material. Chris has an expensive rate so it was not worth continuing if I was not getting the most out of the sessions. Chris moved somewhat fast so that we could get to everything I requested, however, I would have preferred spending a lot of time on fewer topics to ensure that I really mastered the concepts well. I asked Chris if we could do lots of examples and he complied but I wish we had spent more time practicing. While Chris gave me some great notes, I learn best by doing so if the sessions were shorter and a little more interactive (practice problems, having me right out rules, etc..) I would have had a better experience. In conclusion, I would probably give Chris 3.5 out of 5 stars. Chris was very nice and knowledgeable but the long sessions, very fast pace, and expensive rates made my experience a good one rather than a great one.

I sought out Chris's help the summer before I was set to take Organic Chemistry, in order to build a foundation to learn from and have a confidence in the material, as collegiate organic chemistry has been described as daunting by many. Chris was able to go through many of the points: nomenclature, alkene reactions, conformation analysis, etc. I have to say the way he taught the material was very understandable and logical, and at the same time very meticulous in doing so. He would use a variety of colored pens to highlight the important portions of a bond/ point out key parts. His drawings and stepwise method of going through problems was clear to me, but he did make sure to move at my pace when I asked when covering more complex material. Overall great tutor, and I would definitely recommend. One word though, he does tutor in two hour sessions which I was completely fine with, but worth mentioning.
