Wilson Certified, O-G trained Reading Tutor

As a Certified Wilson Reading Educator, I specialize in teaching reading and spelling to children in Kindergarten through High School who are not making adequate progress in traditional settings. My expertise includes working with people who may have additional learning challenges, including Dyslexia, Specific Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Asperger's Syndrome, Autism, Cognitive Challenges, and Executive Functioning Disorders. Using highly motivational behavioral strategies, I inspire even the ...

ADD/ADHD

I specialize in tutoring children with ADD/ADHD who are medicated as well as those whose parents have chosen not to medicate. I utilize a reward system tailored to each individual child. Rewards are earned by 'working hard,' rather than 'correct answers,' and include sticker charts, trips to a treasure chest, games, and edibles. I have worked with children with ADD/ADHD in Resource Rooms, Inclusion Classrooms, and tutored them for over 25 years.

Aspergers

Children with Aspergers can overcome their reading difficulties with the proper instruction. I use a systematic, multisensory approach paired with a positive reward system tailored to motivate each individual child. I have worked with children with Aspergers in Resource Rooms and Inclusion Classrooms, but have had the best results working 1:1 in order to tailor the program to their individual needs.

autism

I have successfully used the multisensory, systematic Wilson Program to teach many children diagnosed with autism to read and spell. Working 1:1 allows me to design instruction and reward programs tailored to individual learning and behavioral needs. I have worked with autistic children in group settings, including summer camps and schools, but see the most gains when they are able to work in a quiet, structured, environment using a personalized approach geared to their unique needs.

Lauren is a skilled tutor who is able to manage the dual roles of working with children and their parents very well. She is warm and personable and clearly has a great deal of experience helping children with learning challenges feel at ease. My child loves going to Lauren for tutoring and Lauren is able to work with her on areas of difficulty in a way that is fun and increases her confidence.
