12/16/13: We particularly like it that Claudia speaks a lot of Spanish during our lessons even though we are beginners. It's helping us get used to the sound of spoken Spanish. She is very flexible too, which helps with our busy schedules. 3/19/14: We are understanding spoken Spanish more and more. Last time, I realized I am understanding whole sentences, not just groups of words! 7/21/2014: We are starting to have small conversations using the words we are learning. It's a challenge but shows that I am learning more than I realized. 8/25/2014: There are fewer and fewer words I can't understand even when Claudia is speaking at a normal rate. It's very encouraging! 10/7/2014: We just got back from vacation in Italy and I was able to write a 2-page essay on our trip in Spanish. I would not have believed I could do that when I started - not quite a year ago! 12/22/14: We are reviewing some grammar and learning new tenses. Some structures in Spanish are unusual but the examples Claudia provides helps make them very clear. 1/17/2015: The homework assignments are especially useful and plentiful. I think I am finally getting the difference between past and imperfect from doing the latest homework! 2/8/2015: I am starting to understand more words and phrases on the radio which is a great step forward for understanding spoken Spanish. I am sure that is due to Claudia's speaking it so much during our lessons. She is very patient with my mistakes which encourages me to keep trying.

Our son is a high school junior taking a rigorous schedule of classes. The subject that he is most concerned about is IB Spanish. (IB Spanish is a two-year class and to earn the IB Diploma, he will need to pass a written and oral exam at the end of the second year.) The class is given in Spanish and my son’s background of keeping up with the spoken language is not his strong suit, and therefore his confidence level of the subject matter was not so good.
