As a parent of 2 kids applying to college at the same time, I struggle everyday on how to spend money helping each child be the best they can be or do the best they can. I had struggled for a long time with the concept of hiring a tutor because I thought my two daughters should be able to take enough practice ACT tests and do enough studying on their own to improve their scores. When that didn't happen I finally decided, with some convincing, to look for a local tutor who may be able to help them both. Each of my daughters is at a different place academically with different skill sets, study habits and work ethics. I cannot say enough or thank Nancy enough for her help. She used their time together efficiently and wisely, focusing on each girls strengths and weaknesses. She was able to help both my daughters raise their ACT scores by three points each in a short period of time. According my kids she was focused on their individual needs and persistent in keeping them on track while at the same time very patient and friendly. She even showed an interest in their extra curricular activities and both my daughters felt she genuinely cared about their success. Nancy very quickly came up to speed on my son's learning style and tutored him on the Reading (comprehension), English (grammar/usage) and Writing sections of the ACT. Instead of just going through each problem one by one, she was able to step back and assess what types of questions he was having difficulty with, why he was having the difficulty and how to correct it. In addition, she helped him to organize his thoughts on various writing prompts and what they are looking for in an essay. His scores went up by about 3-4 points per section after his sessions with her.
