ADD/ADHD
Through my process of elementary teacher certification through the state of New Hampshire, I studied how best to teach students with ADD/ADHD. I learned more about how to help students with ADD/ADHD when I completed my master's in school leadership at Harvard Graduate School of Education. Having worked as an elementary teacher, I have classroom experience working with students with ADD/ADHD. I approach each student individually. These students showed some of the following behaviors: disorganized, forgetful or unaware of deadlines, behavior inconsistency, lack of maturity, difficulty concentrating, daydreaming, less open-mindedness about disliked activities, disruptive outbursts, inability to sit still, fidgety, inability to listen, talking without stopping. I have found that work on the computer is perfect for differentiation because many students are highly engaged by the graphic interface of computers. Also, computer programs allow the level of engagement or even the entire activity to be adjusted to the students. Whenever I give an assignment during class time, I monitor all the students intensely to make sure that the activity is engaging and at an appropriate level for all students. If a student does not understand it, I will use a strategy from another learning style or change my vocabulary choice, or make some type of demonstration on the board until the student understands the assignment and is comfortable with what is being expected of them.

We have been working with Daniel for a few months and are very happy with our experience. Daniel is a very professional teacher, he comes prepared and knows the right way to give kids incentives to learn. He treats my daughter like a friend but also is able to keep her focused when she occasionally gets off track. He is not only a great teacher, but also a role model for our daughter. Highly recommend.
Rebecca Y. from Brookline, MA
Daniel has been working with my son for 2 months now on the SAT, and exhibits great enthusiasm at every lesson. He demonstrates professionalism and knowledge, which allows him to find a way to connect with my son. He is very reliable and punctual, and my son enjoys the lessons with Daniel. Ultimately, Daniel finds strategies to allow my son to be a more successful student.
Dari P. from Belmont, MA
Daniel tutored our child in math and critical reading in preparation for the SAT. He always arrived promptly with a lesson plan and suggestions for what to work on going forward. He quickly assessed the issues, provided good working strategies, and was able to point out errors in a way that did not cause our child to become discouraged. My child felt that he was the most helpful out of several tutors we worked with prior to taking the spring SAT, including an SAT prep class. We dropped the other tutors and our child worked exclusively with Daniel on a weekly basis for several weeks prior to retaking the SAT in October. Our child's goal was a 100 point increase to be a competitive applicant at a highly selective Ivy League university. We were all astonished and thrilled when there was a 210 point score increase which exceeded our wildest expectations. Daniel also reviewed our child's main college application essay and made several good suggestions for making it stronger. Today we found out that our child was accepted Early Decision to the school of choice, and we couldn't be more pleased. We can't recommend Daniel highly enough!

Over the past couple of months, Daniel has been tutoring our son to prepare for the ISEE exam. We are very happy with Daniel's teaching skills and our son's progress in reading comprehension, writing, and math. Our son has rapidly increased his self-confidence on the exam. Daniel demonstrates excellent coaching and academic abilities and has a very friendly personality. Our son always looks forward to his meetings with Daniel. Daniel makes the learning process interesting and enjoyable.

Daniel is honestly such an amazing tutor. There has never been any question that I have had, that he hasn't been able to answer. He's clearly very naturally intelligent and scholarly which allows him to teach more effectively than most tutors who are either just naturally smart or well-trained. Daniel is super kind and he has a good sense of humor. The best thing about Daniel is that he holds the standards high for me at least, and always pushes me to work harder to understand the material. This will be very very useful when it comes to taking the SAT, a test that Daniel knows like the back of his hand. I highly recommend him to any student who is looking to gain a better grasp of writing, reading and math skills. Instead of just teaching little tricks, he increases my knowledge of the material and works through each of the problems in a clear and concise manner. Honestly, if you want a tutor, ask Daniel!
Jan V. from Brookline, MA
Daniel has been wonderful working with our son. Our son is not enthusiastic about school work, yet Daniel always finds a way to motivate him and get him to engage and try harder. Daniel is patient and attentive and has a broad knowledge of all topics. Daniel is always on time and is a very reliable. Overall, we could not hope for a better tutor.
Monlan Y. from Belmont, MA
Finding an excellent writing tutor can be challenging. Daniel has been tutoring my middle school-aged son for the past several months and Daniel turned out to be the perfect choice. Daniel has been concentrating on improving my son’s organization in his writing. Before Daniel started, my son’s sentences would sometimes wander off topic. Other times, it would be hard to understand how he moved from point A to point B in his papers. Daniel taught him how to organize his paragraphs using topic sentences, supporting sentences, detail sentences, and concluding sentences. This formulaic approach has seemed to work well for my son since he can use the same pattern over and over in writing about different topics. In addition, my son has enjoyed working with Daniel. Daniel is a patient, kind tutor who has high expectations and goals for all of his students. After working with Daniel, my son has improved his confidence on all types of writing assignments at school. I very strongly recommend Daniel as a writing tutor for middle school and high school-aged students. He is the best!
Marriam D. from Boston, MA
Dan was an absolutely amazing tutor and a wonderful person to go along with that. His patience and easygoing nature along with his excellent teaching skill allowed me to get where I needed to go. Dan made the most difficult of learning topics seem attainable and with his guidance I learned some very difficult concepts even after I had been out of the learning game for a very long time. I would not have been able to do this without Dan; his relaxing demeanor made the most difficult math problems seem manageable. Do yourself a favor and if you need guidance in the world of math tutoring, choose Dan !
Elena D. from Cambridge, MA
Daniel is extremely helpful. Great, gifted teacher, inspirational, patient, persistent. My daughter makes amazing progress studying with him on academic writing. Not only have her grades skyrocketed, she has really grasped the concepts and found her own writing voice after his lessons. Daniel is exceptionally reliable, highly involved, present, and does care about his students. Best tutor we ever worked with, recommending him highly.
Joseph N. from Newton Center, MA
My children, aged 9 and 7, recently took English lessons with Mr. Daniel S. during our two-week stay in Boston. They had a total of 10 lessons of 3 hours each. That is a lot to ask of the young children (and the tutor too), but Mr. Daniel S. was able to keep them engaged the whole time. He prepares well for his lessons which helps keep the lessons interesting and effective. From talking to my children after the lessons and from going through their written work, I can see that they have made good progress in reading, writing, and speaking, much to my surprise given the short period of time. I find Mr Daniel S. to be passionate about teaching and very well experienced. If we are in town again, I would most definitely seek his help with my children's learning.
Hyeonjee K. from Chestnut Hill, MA
Daniel has been tutoring my daughter, who is a 7th grade ESL student, for a month, twice a week. He is very responsible and professional. He knows exactly what she needs for improving her English in each lesson. He shows the various ways to study English. He has many textbooks and references. He has been doing much more than I expected. My daughter enjoys the lessons; I'm also very satisfied with them.
Anita S. from Cambridge, MA
As a parent, Daniel is an outstanding, patient, and very professional tutor. Highly recommended, always giving feedback, and my son is benefiting on preparing for SAT!
Dori M. from Concord, MA
Daniel has been working with my sons for a few weeks. My sons are 13 and 10 years old. I found Daniel on the WyzAnt website. He had excellent reviews so I set up our first meeting. It has been a very positive experience from that first meeting. I find Daniel to be a very caring, responsible, and knowledgeable tutor. Importantly, my sons enjoy him and the tutoring sessions. He is tutoring my 13 year old son in Latin and my 10 year old son in math, writing, and reading comprehension. Daniel is always punctual and flexible. He did research on what the boys are learning in school and will be learning this fall before we even started our first session. The boys are excited to meet with Daniel every time. He assigns appropriate homework for the boys to work on between sessions. Daniel always goes over the material he covered with me after each session. By doing this, it helps me to be involved and to follow their progress. I truly think with Daniel's help, both my sons will have greater confidence heading back to school this fall.
Victoria S. from Norwood, MA
I found Daniel's profile on WyzAnt for my 6 year old son who is learning the English language and is in Kindergarten. My son's native language is Russian and he only attended Russian preschool and spoke Russian at home until this year when he started school. Although he learned to speak rather quickly, he had some issues learning to read and write in English. Daniel has been amazing with him! Daniel right away found a good approach and is incredibly patient with him. Whenever my son gets tired or distracted, Daniel finds a fun way to get his attention back. We have seen great results and are extremely happy with the progress my son has been making with the help of Daniel! Additionally, we have asked Daniel to teach our son math and have added an extra day for piano lessons. Can't recommend him enough and we hope to keep seeing more and more improvements in my son's learning as he enters first grade this fall!
Mioko T. from Brooklyn, NY
Daniel has been helping me to develop my writing skills for the TOEFL Writing Section. He makes appropriate comments, encouraging or instructive, and gives me very helpful feedback each time. What impressed me most is that he writes his version on the same prompt as I do so that I can learn clearly how to write good essays. This has been working great for me! He is enthusiastic about teaching, which makes me feel very motivated. I'm really happy that I've found such a superb tutor like Daniel.
Ana L. from Chestnut Hill, MA
He is a great teacher. My daughter is learning a lot, and she likes him as a piano teacher. He is friendly, very professional, and nice. I really recommend him as a teacher.
Markus W. from Watertown, MA
Daniel started with our son (7) about two weeks ago. We relocated from Germany about 7 months ago and our son still struggles with his English. Daniel quickly figured out the specific needs of our son (communication) and prepares a lot of different methods to teach (reading books, preparing paper strips with questions, telling stories and asks our son about the content). After the lesson, he provides feedback about the learning progress and helps us to find ways to improve our son's English skills at home ourselves. Daniel is a professional, engaged, well prepared teacher and our son likes to work with him very much.

This was only the second lesson that Daniel had with my son. I was impressed with his dedication to truly learning and understanding areas of strengths and weaknesses. He was able to identify problems and also help my son understand what those problems were. He took extra time to ensure that we all knew what the goals and expectations are for the tutoring lessons.
Warren C. from Belmont, MA
My son has been working with Daniel on SAT prep for over a month. He really enjoys Daniel's teaching style and honesty. He doesn't even complain about starting at 8am on Saturdays, which is a miracle in itself. From my perspective Daniel is kind, responsive, adaptable (in terms of teaching style), shows up on time, and I would recommend his services highly.
Herve S. from Lexington, MA
Daniel is an outstanding tutor. My daughter worked with at least 3 different tutors prior to working with Daniel. And he is the best by far. He was able to motivate my 10th grader and now she is looking forward to each session. In addition, he is able to help her understand what the successful path to college is. He sometimes plays the role of a mentor such as better understanding the reason why she needs to have good grades. Daniel goes beyond teaching the material e.g. english, math and history. She went from a B average in 9th grade to A average in 10th grade! We can not be more pleased.

If your interest is AP History or AP Literature, you’d be hard pressed to find a better tutor than Daniel! My son and I feel very, very lucky to have found him. His range of expertise in quite a few subjects is unusually wide, his breadth of knowledge is impressively deep, and his 100% commitment to his students is extraordinary. He’s serious about tutoring. He is genuinely passionate about his subjects and seeks to make the material both accessible and fascinating. He wants you to love it. His ability to deftly teach in a engaging, stimulating, thought-provoking manner is palpably inspired. He will think about how best to reach a student and seek to engage them in a way that will make the material stick. Daniel really cares that you both master your material and appreciate why it matters. He never phones it in. He pays great attention to relevant details. You will feel that he really wants to maximize your potential. And just as importantly, he’s a really, really nice guy. He invests in his students and gets to know them. Among many other things, Daniel is encouraging, extremely easy to talk to, exceptionally competent, respectful and results-oriented. He cares that you attain your goals. He will think about that even after your lesson. He’s also an excellent writing coach. His ability to analyze essays for correct grammar, structure, coherence, clarity, and inspiration is superb. He is very skilled at correcting a student without deflating their confidence. And he is patient. We also love the fact that Daniel offers lessons online. This is tremendously helpful as we live very far from Daniel, yet Skype works so well that we feel as if he’s teaching at our kitchen table! I’ve had tutors in person and on Skype and I can honestly say that there is no added benefit to the in-person session. In any case, we feel truly grateful and indebted to Daniel! He’s the best!

Today I planned with Daniel, the steps to achieve my goals. He gave me a lot of materials and suggestions of what to work on.

Daniel had been working with my 3 kids (9, 7, 7) for several weeks teaching them math skills. They have progressed in their learning considerably and enjoy the time they spend with him.

Daniel helped my son prepare the SSAT, and he has been a great tutor. He is an intelligent, kind, and hardworking tutor. I would recommend him to anyone.
Bo L. from Belmont, MA
I am a high school junior who spent my middle school years in China and came here as a high school freshman in fall 2013, lacking sufficient English skills and even proper speech then. When it came to the SAT, I struggled on the CR section and essay but had near perfect scores on Math, scoring only 1700 the first time I tried a practice test a the end of my freshman year. Last year, before working with Daniel, I took a prep class with Princeton Review over the summer, which helped me little. I was scoring in the 1950 range on Blue book tests in may, and after Princeton Review, my scores were at most 2000-2050 on practice tests with 550-600 reading and 7 to 8 essays. I panicked at the end of August after seeing such little improvement. However, after meeting Daniel in late August, he made me buy "The Critical Reader" and gave me a completely new set of techniques. We also went over practice tests and had fun little "debates" every time and I learned how to write a proper SAT essay and in weeks time using his format. I felt much better as time went on! I eventually took the old SAT in early December and ended with a 650 CR 10 Essay and overall 2220 as a junior! Time was limited for me due to the deadline of the old SAT and if I had found him earlier, I could have scored higher, but it only took me 3 months to raise 50-100 on my CR section, the hardest SAT section to raise scores. Although the new SAT is coming up, I strongly suggest Daniel as a tutor. He took the SAT in 2004 and never even took the 2005-2015 administration of the SAT but still helped me improve so much in such a short amount of time! I'm sure that with the new SAT he can do the same.
Chrisy Y. from Winchester, MA
Daniel is an effective writing tutor. After working with him, my daughters have made improvements on vocabulary, added more details in the writing and organized the paper better. Especially, they become much more confident in writing and really enjoy it. Daniel is encouraging, extremely patient and highly competent. He can identify the weakness quickly and apply effective strategies. Daniel can also make the adjustment on his teaching approach or assignments to find the best fit for the kids. My daughters love to learn with Daniel. Daniel is also super easy to talk to. I really appreciate his feedback after each lesson. He takes time to address the parents’ concern very carefully. He is quite open to any suggestions. I would highly recommend Daniel, a great tutor!
John M. from Melrose, MA
Daniel did a great job preparing our daughter for her SAT exam, which was the new SAT first used in March 2016. Daniel had already prepared himself for the new test and jumped right in. He was accommodating to our schedule and really got our daughter ready to take the test. I highly recommend Daniel.
Justin H. from Lexington, MA
Daniel is the best tutor we ever hired to help my son with his high school English and history learning. Daniel has been teaching my son for almost a half year. I don't know what the magic methods or strategies he used in his tutoring. My son's grades both in English and American History keep improving dramatically. Just recently he got "A" in his Term 3 English course. American history grade was greatly improved as well. Given my son's background and tough English and history classes, I never imagined he could ever achieve these.
Rebekah M. from Weston, MA
Daniel is so patient and thorough. I am slowly watching my son transform from hasty/careless to a conscientious student! What a gift to him for his future academic career!
Hasna A. from Boston, MA
I've been dealing with Daniel for almost a year teaching my two boys, Daniel was always top in class. He was so professional, patient and fun! He expanded my children's visions and knowledge and that what an outstanding teacher does! He was always on time, very organized and very creative in delivering the information. My boys love him and we are so happy to have Daniel in our lives as a caring, responsible teacher!!
