Christine
Terrific Tutor for Troubling Times
I have been a special needs teacher and tutor for over fifteen years. I have seen the progress that can be made in small settings and know that this is ideal for students with special needs and any student who feels they are struggling. As the oldest child of two siblings with special needs, I know how frustrating and overwhelming school can be and can help students achieve the success that their hard work warrants them. The MCAS writing portion has been my main focus for the past few years...
Aspergers
I have taught special needs for over fifteen years, and have seen the success that a small setting has for children with Asperger's. This spectral disorder provides many challenges for everyone involved in this student's life. It is like going to a different country where you have a loose grasp of the language but miss a lot because this grasp is limited. Social cues, hyperbole and a common ground of understanding can make someone with Asperger's feel lost and ostracized when they wish for acceptance and understanding. I have seen how a one on one approach to learning is more effective, as I can adapt lessons to the various learning styles and nuances students need to achieve success.
ADD/ADHD
I have taught students with special needs, ADD and ADHD. I understand the frustration and know that working one on one is the best way to help students achieve success. Students with ADD/ADHD struggle with this in EVERY aspect of their life. It is not something that is turned on and off and can be just as frustrating for the student as it is for other people in their lives. I think that some people believe it is a behavioral problem that can be controlled with self-discipline. This is the equivalent of telling a diabetic to create healthy insulin levels. This is not something that is outgrown or by willful choice, and needs patience and perseverance to help students achieve success.

Christine is very patient with my son and very positive for him. He is doing much better since he began with Christine. My son is doing better in school thanks to Christine. She remains very patient with a boy who does not much like homework!
