Kathy worked with our 13 year old son for about 4 months - once a week for an hour and a half - to prep for the ISEE. In the beginning our son was dreading the tutoring sessions but after working with Kathy he actually began to look forward to the sessions. She had a way of making the material interesting, challenging and fun for him. He actually said a number of times after she left -- "that was actually fun". The manner in which she dealt with him was spot on -- she gave him the tools to work through problems where he might have otherwise given up and she had a nurturing approach that made him feel good about himself. She instilled a confidence that he needed going into this test. Given he is a current 7th grader there was material on the test he had not learned in school yet and Kathy did a great job teaching him how to work through the problems and pick the best answer. In addition, she provided an outline and tools he could use when writing an essay. I would definitely recommend her to any of my friends with kids studying for exams or in need of writing tools. I am so happy we found her when we did because my son did really well on the ISEE and got in to his #1 choice for private school as an 8th grader.

First, the obvious good. With about ten 1.5 hr lessons with Kathy over about a 2 month period, my son's scores went from under 2000 to 2330, including 800 on math. While multiple factors contributed to that improvement there can be no doubt that Kathy's guidance was a large factor. While many tutors might be able to provide general test strategies, Kathy was particularly good at diagnosing my kid's individual needs and interacting with him to shore up areas of weakness, in an efficient and effective manner. I'm not sure what the magic is but she has it. Maybe we muggles will never understand ... But that's ok because she does. Kathy was also willing to do the sessions at our home, and flexible when schedule snafus developed on occasion. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Would highly recommend Kathy.
