After teaching Latin and English (and occasionally German) at the same high school for 30 years, I have recently retired and now teach an SAT prep class at the local community college. I was dual certified by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards, something that less than 1% of America's teachers have achieved, and I am also a published essayist. Deborah has had a positive effect on not only our son's Latin skills, but on his attitude toward his studies. She is in touch with his curriculum at school, and each week addresses the "hot buttons" of the moment. This works much better for him than someone who is rigid with a set lesson plan. Instead of a limited focus, she helps him to understand the relationships of his different classes. Deborah is also very reliable and punctual, and always provides thorough feedback on each lesson. She is professional and obviously well experienced in working with students. ******************************************** Update March 2015 ********************************************** Deborah has continued to be instrumental in our son's flourishing in high school. His GPA has climbed and he now insists on taking AP classes to be challenged. Where he once considered perhaps going to community college, he is now considering that he could be accepted at Ivy League schools. He has asked for Deborah to help him prep for the SAT, the ACT and guide him in the writing of essays and applications. She has become more than a tutor; she is really a coach who can help our son be an excellent student and do his best work in a wide range of areas. In over a year, she has not missed a single scheduled meeting, and has been most flexible with our schedules as well. It is refreshing to know someone so dedicated, and who sets a great example for her student as well.

Having Mrs. Deborah as a tutor this summer has been one of the best decisions for us, especially my son. With her patience and guidance, he has a lot of confidence in Latin and is ready for school to start. Mrs. Deborah is patient, but firm and pushed him to want to do better. Her tips and advise will be put to good use. He is working on memorizing the vocabulary. We will definitely call if my son needs help during the school year. Have a great year and thank you very much! God bless you!

My child was resistant to the idea of having a tutor at first. Deborah made her feel very comfortable within 2 sessions, and made a lot of the work fun. She is extremely knowledgeable about different strategies to help increase SAT scores and help with test time management. She let us know about online self-help websites so we could work at home as well. Working with Deborah has also improved my child’s reading and writing skills which has helped solidify grades in all of her classes. Deborah is pleasant, courteous, and always on time.

I came to know Deborah on WyzAnt and contacted her initially for my daughter's college application essay writing. My daughter was very impressed with Deborah teaching style especially because she taught my daughter to write her own essay. And now when it was time for my son's SAT, I contacted Deborah again and she helped my son both with his reading and writing. I asked my son if he would like to write about Deborah's teaching and he wrote the following: "Deborah is very active in analyzing student weaknesses, and provides various practice materials which address these weaknesses. I saw great improvement in my reading comprehension due to the methods taught by her for reading compression. She is also very knowledgeable about the SAT and how it is graded, which is evident in her tutoring style. In terms of writing, her brainstorming technique is superb and efficient. I think my favorite attribute of hers is her ability to explain grammar rules in an universally understandable manner." We are very happy to have met Deborah and thankful for her willingness to help our kids.

My daughter was getting ready to take the SAT, and she needed some help with creative reading and writing. Deborah was not only able to help her with reading and writing but build confidence to take the test. She provided her with great resources and vocabulary words as SAT prep. Her Latin background helped my daughter with simplifying the vocab words. Her essay writing skills vastly improved. I highly recommend her for all your linguistic needs. I would definitely use her expertise again.

Deborah went above and beyond to get in touch with my son's middle school teachers over the summer to gather additional information on honors expectations as well as my son's current strengths and weaknesses. This really helped her to tailor the lessons plans to target growth areas.

Deborah provided a great tutor experience for my son who finished his Freshman year at high school. We met once a week at the library and she was punctual. Each week's lesson built on the other and after the first two sessions she had an assessment of my son's weaknesses. My son commented that he learned a lot. I would recommend Deborah and we may need to ask for her help again if she is available. My son felt the tutoring helped this summer in preparing for future English and History classes.

Deborah has been a great tutor for my son. She has done practice test questions and practiced vocabulary and tricky questions. Also she spent some time with my son reviewing a SAT practice online essay and she gave many recommendations to him that were useful at the time of the real test. They also went through some multiple choice questions about improving sentences and identifying sentence errors. I am sure she made a great impact on my son's SAT score that I will publish when I receive the results. Thank you Deborah!

We sought out Deborah due to our daughter failing Latin 2 and possibly not graduating. Deborah provides my daughter with skills to succeed in Latin. Not only did she ask my daughter detailed questions about what was happening in class, Deborah taught my daughter new study skills she had been lacking. Deborah’s patience was paramount when dealing with my daughter, who was frustrated and failing with only a month to improve. Deborah determined what our daughter’s weaknesses were so that she could pass the class and her CRES allowing her to graduate. If you want someone who will help you succeed, but also who will enable you to learn, look no further.
