Literacy Specialist K-12, Certified Teacher, Wilson Trained
Hi! My name is Audrey and I have been teaching children and adults how to become confident readers and writers for most of my adult life. Currently I am a Literacy Specialist/Coach. I work with teachers around what is "best practice" and how to integrate research based intervention and instruction into their classrooms throughout the day. I also work with small groups of children in a variety of ways. I work with students who are struggling to learn to read and write and with students who nee...
ADD/ADHD
I have worked with many students over the last 24 years as a classroom teacher, a tutor, as a mom, and as an owner of a private tutoring business in Fort Myers. I am a certified teacher, a literacy specialist, a certified literacy coach, trained and certified in several Orton-Gillingham based reading programs and have taken workshops and been to conferences pertaining to special needs students and students with attention issues. One of the powerful aspects of tutoring is it is a 1:1 situation and many of the ADD/ADHD behaviors are not present because there are not as many distractions as there would be for small group instruction or in a school. Also, the type of instruction I use is multi-sensory so the students will be use all modalities to learn- fine-motor, gross- motor, visual, auditory, and tactile. Students are able to practice work up on a white board, using manipulatives and transferring that information into reading and writing at their seats. This type of teaching and 1:1 situations bodes well for students who have attention issues.
Aspergers
I am a literacy specialist and a classroom teacher. I have worked with students who have aspergers in interventions in reading and writing in the classroom- systematic, structured, explicit, multi-sensory programs, ie: Wilson, S.P.I.R.E, Leveled Literacy Intervention by Fountas and Pinnell, Reading Recovery, and have worked directly 1:1 with aspergers students and in small group settings. I also have a son who has mild aspergers and he has been very successful in school and in social situations. I also am trained in the Responsive Classroom and in Collaborative Problem Solving by Ross Green.
