My fifth-grade daughter generally does well in all of her subjects, but Saxon math has been very problematic for her. When I searched for a tutor, I was drawn to Joan R. from the start. Joan's profile explains that she has significant experience as a homeschooling mom with a variety of subjects, including teaching Saxon math, and that her approach is to make the student comfortable with learning. Joan has been a blessing. Just hearing the quiet voices and sometimes even giggles(!) from my daughter in the dining room, is such a relief after months and months of mom and daughter agonizing through homework. With Joan's patient, step-by-step guidance through the math problems and her encouragement and reinforcement when my daughter does have a concept down already, we are seeing improvements in our daughter's confidence and less anxiety with test-taking. After her last test, instead of "Mom, I'm so stupid at math," I heard "I think I did ok!" We plan to continue with Joan over the summer in order to focus in on areas of difficulty and to strengthen our daughter's basic skills in preparation for the next level of Saxon math. Our hope is to stay with Joan through sixth grade and beyond. I highly recommend Joan R. as a tutor. She is a wonderful match for my daughter and I would not hesitate to use her for other subjects as well.
