Tutoring with T*L*C*

Hello friends! I have been in the field of education for more than 24 years and am currently an Intervention Specialist for Fraser Public Schools...and I just love it! ADD/ADHD

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder -- also referred to as ADD or ADHD -- is a biological, brain based condition that is characterized by poor attention and distractibility and/or hyperactive and impulsive behaviors. It is one of the most common mental disorders that develop in children. If left untreated, ADHD can lead to poor school performance, poor social relationships and a general feeling of low self esteem. Difficulties with concentration, mental focus, and control of impulses are common behaviors and can impair a child's daily functioning across a variety settings -- home, school, and in relationships. I have over 20 years experience tutoring children with ADD/ADHD in an after school support program. I have been trained in the IEP process and have been invited to many parent/teacher conferences where I have been asked to give insight on a child's specific behavioral and/or academic progress in relation to concentration, impulsivity, and social interactions. I have also had training in difficult behaviors in the classroom setting and special accommodations that may help the ADD/ADHD student stay focused such as headphone use, colored paper placed underneath work papers, large exercise balls for seats and short breaks between tasks.
