Kelly P. - Elementary through High School Tutoring
I have been a parapro in a local school district for four years. Prior to that, I worked as a substitute teacher for three years. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. I love helping kids to learn. It a nice feeling to realize you've help a child understand a new concept. I take the approach that every child learns differently. Each child needs a individualized plan tailored to their needs. The goals should be realistic and attainable, to give the child a sense of accomplishment. ...
ADD/ADHD
I know from my work as a parent and a substitute Parapro and teacher that success is important and the child can't be overwhelmed with the assignment. I have a son who has ADHD. I know the tutor has to be very patient. A student with ADHD will need extra time. They will need a break after a while, instead of studying straight through for an hour. For the ADHD child, the lessons should be broken down into small pieces that will give the child the greatest chance to succeed. This will give the child confidence.
