Aspergers

During my career as a high school math teacher I have had the opportunity to work with many students with Asperger's Syndrome. Being able to read subtle emotional responses, finding innovative ways to deliver curriculum and allowing students to find their own way to demonstrate their understanding are a few of the soft skills I have developed over years. Students with Asperger's also appreciate my gentle sense of humor!

autism

Included in my professional portfolio is experience as a summer camp counselor and a paraprofessional assigned to several students with autism. I also have classroom experience working with autistic students. I believe all students can learn with the right approach and have been very successful with autistic students.

ADD/ADHD

My first teaching opportunity was for an alternative high school program that included small class sizes for students with ADD/ADHD. My lessons for them included kinetic modalities such as acting out math and logic problems, using the chalk board and white boards for in-class assignments, and making games out of memorization and drill practice sessions.
