autism
I was a school psychologist for 30 years and was responsible for evaluating and diagnosing students w/ ASD. I also assisted in determining educational programming designed to support academic progress, and in designing individualized plans for students. Evaluations consisted of interviews with parents and teachers, observations in school/home, and one-to-one work with students.
Aspergers
I was a school psychologist for 30 years and was responsible for evaluating and diagnosing students w/ ASD. Students with Aspergers fall under the ASD eligibility umbrella. I would say over 50% of the ASD eligible students I worked with over the years carried the Aspergers label which was and is a clinical (not an educational) diagnosis. Students with the higher functioning Aspergers diagnosis typically did not have significant issues with academics. Rather the struggle was more social and relational. I assisted in determining educational programming designed to support academic progress, and in designing individualized plans for students with Aspergers Disorder.
ADD/ADHD
I was a school psychologist for 30 years and was responsible for assisting in diagnosis of students with ADHD. I led the 504 Accommodation Plan meetings in order to assure that students received adequate supports to assist them in their educational progress. Any student suspected of having ADHD in the schools I served was required to go through me.
