Thalia has been teaching my two children French once a week for three months. The lessons have been going very well. My children had differing levels of previous French language education. Thalia assessed their levels and decided on what areas to focus and which educational materials to use for their lessons. She has some of her own materials and she has made use of some of my children's previous classroom materials. She has been kind and patient with the children. Initially Thalia spoke to the children in English but has gradually switched to predominately French. Similarly, she has increased her expectation for their spoken French. Thalia gives the children a little homework to keep them working in French between lessons. My children really enjoy and look forward to their time with her. After each lesson, Thalia provides me with an understanding of what material the children have covered. Thalia is always punctual, professional, and respectful. If an occasion arrives that requires a schedule change, she communicates promptly. She is also flexible to any change that we might need to make.

Last August we were looking for just the right tutor/motivator for our girl, M, who was beginning sophomore year and had struggled to maintain a C- average in freshman year. While she tested average or above-average in most areas, she "hated school and homework" and also had trouble concentrating on areas she wasn't interested in. Thalia met with M. weekly on Mondays for the entire school year and occasionally extra days. For M, it was a great way to start out the week as it got her back in the groove. Thalia was able to help her tackle difficult readings from IB History, English and French by helping her "break down" the overwhelming whole into smaller pieces. M has a tendency to give up at the first obstacle and Thalia has a gift for keeping things moving so it was a good match. Thalia also sensed when it was time to take a short break from the lessons. Of course Thalia's being a native speaker of French and having lived in Paris was an added bonus which has motivated M to travel there after high school. In addition to her tutoring skills, Thalia is a very interesting and accomplished young woman and our girl felt at ease with her from day one. Finally, M fared much better in her sophomore year and we attribute a great deal of her success to her tutoring with Thalia. We're hoping to build on that in her Junior year.
