autism

I have recently worked very closely with students on the Autism spectrum. I worked 3.5 years with a young man where we worked on his reading and math (that were at about 4th grade level), to getting his GED! We further worked together for social skills and I shadowed him to get job experience for him. That was a success. I am currently working the past 8 months with an 8 year old female student. When she came to me she could not read. Now she is on a 2nd grade level phonetically and 1st grade level in comprehension. We also worked on handwriting and social skills. My state certifications and lifelong professional experience include Elementary Education - K-8, Remedial Reading - K-12, Learning Disabilities - K-12, School Psychological Examiner and School Counselor - K-8. I have worked with many students either as a educational diagnostician, a teacher, a school counselor in charge of interventions and getting the student diagnosed, and been part of countless IEPs. Autism did not have it's own certification at the time. But I have worked with students on the autism spectrum both in the public school and one to one tutoring with success!

ADD/ADHD

I have aided in the diagnosis of ADD/ADHD as a school counselor and private consultant. I am certified in Learning Disabilities and have been an Educational Diagnostician. I have worked successfully with many ADD with or without Hyperactivity students!

Aspergers

As an elementary school counselor (ten years), I worked with several Aspergers students. I worked with them regarding classroom interventions that were needed. i worked with the teacher and parents regarding teaching techniques as well as other interventions needed such as social skills, etc. I aided in getting several students diagnosed with Aspergers, then followed up with their IEP's, etc. I saw these students on a daily basis and checked in with them often. I did counseling as well as tutoring with these students. My state certifications and lifelong professional experience include Elementary Education - K-8, Remedial Reading - K-12, Learning Disabilities - K-12, School Psychological Examiner and School Counselor - K-8. Most of these certifications are for far in the future if not lifetime. There was no "Aspergers" certification at the time. I have worked with many students either as a educational diagnostician, a teacher, a school counselor in charge of interventions and getting the student diagnosed, and been part of countless IEPs. I have worked with many learning disabilities, learning difficulties, and learners "labeled" with a learning problem successfully!
