Hi! My name is Rachel and I tutor in multiple subjects, particularly ones related to English, Math, and Music. I graduated from Wesleyan University in 2007 and since then have been tutoring privately and as an independent contractor through a number of agencies. In the last few years, I have worked with many students with ADD and ADHD. Every student is different, and one thing that I have learned in my teaching is that a strategy that doesn't work for one child or adult might be a good solution for another. I try to be creative, compassionate, and fun in my approaches to helping students focus. Some solutions have included: incentive systems; short breaks within sessions; physical activity like jumping jacks or dancing; games and songs; organizational checklists; etc. I am open to trying new things and collaborating with parents and teachers to find strategies that work.

Rachel is very professional and gets right down to tutoring - which is great when you're paying by the hour. When I say professional, I don't mean stuffy - she is very friendly and makes it easy for the student to engage in the lesson. She's also energetic, an important quality when working with kids who aren't very excited about being tutored. She responds quickly to emails and is flexible about where the tutoring takes place. Rachel is very nice and actually was familiar with the somewhat unusual book my daughter was reading (most people are not). She was very patient, working slowly to make sure my daughter fully understood what was happening in the story and it's significance.
