Dominique
Patient UCLA Grad English/Math Tutor with Credential
Hello. My name is Dominique and I have a CA & NC teaching credential and master's degree in education. I enjoy working with students of all ages in different subjects. I have experience in Math, Reading Comprehension and Writing in K-12. I also enjoy helping with GED and test preparation. I am very patient and take the time to explain concepts many different ways until the student fully understands. I explain through examples and break problems down into easy steps. I enjoy hearing students ...
ADD/ADHD
I have a degree in psychology and I also work with students who have ADHD. Students with ADHD struggle with focusing and completing assignments. Depending on the severity, setting up incentives such as rewards in stickers or prizes before beginning the activity can be helpful. Having the student repeat the directions and the time they are allotted helps them to stay focused. Using a timer and encouraging them to keep working is another strategy I use. If there is a lengthy assignment that takes an hour, I would split it up into 15 minutes interval and have the student take a break in between. Sometimes students with ADHD need to complete assignments standing up, and I will modify the lesson if they need to stand while completing it. I will also bring in visuals for those students who are visual and kinesthetic learners.
autism
I have a degree in psychology and I currently work with students who have learning disabilities and autism. When working with students who have autism I make sure that I explain directions and concepts slowly and in many different ways. Students with autism often have difficulty with expression, so I also give them the opportunity to answer questions in different ways (i.e. through illustrations, hand-gestures.

My granddaughter was very comfortable with her after the first lesson. I had set up two other tutors for an interview also, yet my granddaughter asked me when could she come back. Dominque came prepared with a lesson plan and other Study Guides/Aides to asst with the evaluation. We were very impressed. Also her academic and work credentials were exactly what we were looking for. My granddaughter said she was very good.

Dominique is the best tutor I have ever seen. She takes her time to get to know the student and their individual needs. My son is hearing impaired and has ADD but Dominique has never had issues with getting him to understand the lessons. She makes sure my son understands everything before going to the next lesson. Dominique makes lesson plans and follows them so I know what is going to happen before each lesson. I love her teaching style and would recommend her to everyone on this website.

Good understanding of curriculum & how individuals learn. Concerned about our needs. Had a strategy. Kind attentive interaction with our child.

She provided a lot of helpful information/resources/materials that helped my son have a greater understanding of Common Core English as he is working to create artifacts.
