I have coached graduating students for the Virginia EOC tests in Reading, Writing, and US History as well as World Geography, and World History. I work on test strategy and teaching skills that the student was challenged by in the previous test based on that result. This past year, I had a 100% pass rate for Writing with the students I coached.

I took a graduate level course called Word Study in which I studied about formations of words and phonics for English as a Second Language. I teach Second Language Acquisition which is a topic directly related to phonics. I cover principals of phonics, pronunciation, and phonetics. I hold a master's degree from Virginia Tech and a Virginia Teaching Credential, ESOL, Prek-12.

I have taken the ESOL Praxis Subject Test on which I scored a 700. In addition, I took the Secondary English Praxis Test on which I scored a 173. I have done extensive study and test preparation for personal improvement for my career. I used the web site, test manuals, and supplemental materials to prepare for these tests.

Laura has been tutoring my girls for 8 months, she is a very patient and enthusiastic tutor. We come from Europe and arrived with two girls starting school (7th and 10th graders) with barely a few words of English. We hired Laura for ESL but she proved to be very helpful with my girl's homework. She patiently reviewed lessons in Language Arts, but also in Social studies, Sciences and Civics. We appreciate her versatility as she did not focus only on ESL but often came with resources directly related to the girls' needs. My girls both enjoy the fact that Laura understands what is helpful for them. She also switches from my 12 year old to my 15 year old with no problem and adapts the contents to their level and their age. I have been tutored by this person for about 3 months. She is the best tutor that I have ever had. She tutors me in social studies and English, and I have an A in both classes.
