I am a college graduate with a degree in Spanish and Linguistics from the University of NH. I have experience abroad as well as teaching all levels and ages. I also have experience teaching groups of all ages, group management and facilitation training. I have basic knowledge of German and French as well. I love to teach and adapt my teaching style to the individual student's needs. I can use existing curriculum but also am experienced in developing whatever a student might need....
Aspergers
I have worked with students who exhibit symptoms of Aspergers as well as having a stepson who is diagnosed with this disability. The deficits is social communication and awareness make their interactions with peers difficult. We work on personal space, appropriatness of conversations and defecits in age appropriate actities as well age appropriate activities ie perseverance.
autism
I have worked with students who experience autism as well as have been a mother of a child who experiences autism for almost 15 years. He was involved in Early Intervention and Applied Behavior Analysis and floortime techniques. I feel very exprienced and utilize these techniques when working with my son as well as others who experience autism.
ADD/ADHD
I attended a twelve week course in supporting parents of children's education who experience disabilities including ADHD. I also worked for five years for an aging and adults with disabilities resource center where I learned about the signs. I have many strategies to help students with ADD/ADHD to focus. Medication can sometimes help but behavior modification is essential.
