Highly Qualified Elementary Teacher and Orton Gillingham Certified
Hello, I am certified in three states K-6, Special Education, and Pre-school. I am certified in Orton Gillingham which is a multi-sensory reading program. It helps students with dyslexia and students struggling with phonics and/or reading succeed. Orton Gillingham was used to develop programs such as Wilson and Read 180. I am highly qualified in Special Education in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. My first two years teaching I was at a private special education school working with students who had multiple disabilities including: aspergers and autism at the elementary level. I helped create social skill events (gift exchange/luncheon) with a teacher who worked with students at the high school level. I instructed and implemented social skills lessons at least twice a week to teach basic social skills such as eye contact, turn taking, manners, and more. Over the summer I implemented discrete trails to children who were in preschool. I had experience in other school placements in self-contained classrooms and resource rooms as well as working with adults in a day program.

We have seen such a dramatic improvement in our daughter's math performance since Ilona began tutoring for us. Thanks to Ilona teaching, our daughter has a renewed sense of confidence that extends beyond math, and carries over into all the aspects of her classroom experience. We feel very fortunate to have Ilona as our child's tutor. Ilona is extremely talented and adept at understanding our daughter and recognizing creative ways to keep the lessons fresh and fun. Our daughter is so engaged with Ilona's lessons that she's sad to see Ilona go at the end of her visit!

Ilona is a very encouraging, well rounded, patient and cool tutor! My son, who is 9 is a very shy, anxious, quiet child who has learning disabilities. He needed a different way of learning. His traditional private school setting way of learning was not working for him. In addition, my techniques at home were not sinking in for him. We needed someone who had the knowledge of Special Ed and who would get my son out of his shell. She has succeeded in both! He loves it when Ilona comes to the house! He especially loves not getting frustrated when it comes to studying. My son and I would both be in tears come test time. She has made studying at home fun and successful! As a mom, I hated seeing my son struggle. Ilona has given us new ways to learn and I thank you for that!
