ADD/ADHD

For more than two decades I have been certified by the Ohio Board of Education to work with students in grades 1 through 12 with ADD/ADHD. Approximately 20% of all my students (children and adults) have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. I currently work with a number of elementary school/middle school/high school psychologists (in the Greater Columbus, Ohio area) in developing and implementing a variety of methods to address my individual student's academic lessons...based exclusively on their respective needs...thereby improving their respective academic performance. I also work with the Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities in helping educators/school administrators/parents improve the overall education of children with ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia, and Dysgraphia...especially in creating an Individual Education Program (IEP) for each of my students.

We have had a wonderful experience with Tommy G. Not only did my son enjoy his 2 hours sessions with Tommy (imagine that!), he really appreciated all of the knowledge and strategy tips Tommy was able to share. My son's score increased by 4 points and we couldn't be happier. My son had had a few sessions with other tutors and the big difference between Tommy and the others was that Tommy was able to give him tips and strategies that would give him the biggest bang for the buck when it came to the test. as apposed to a bunch of homework he had to bring home and read and do before the next session. For the most part, everything my son learned he learned within the two hour tutor sessions. He didn't have to come home and do more work, which would have been hard to find the time for and would have been like pulling teeth to get him to do on top of all of his regular school homework. We give Tommy G. and A+.

We are extremely fortunate to have Tom tutor our daughter. Tom's teaching method is fundamentally based on making kids think about real life applications of math and English concepts. This is something that is very difficult to observe in our current school systems.

My son wanted a higher score on his ACT. I didn't know anyone that could help. I started searching the web and came across the WyzAnt website. Then I began the task of searching for an instructor. I came across Tom's name, and I couldn't be happier with the results. My son understands the ACT "tricks" and is better prepared for retaking the ACT this weekend. He is more confident and relaxed. Tom is very punctual, professional, dependable and ethical. He is easily reached by phone and provided all materials. I would definitely recommend him to family and friends.

Tom is awesome, my highschool son finds him very interesting and helpful. Tom presents information in an exciting way, focusing on real life and intergrating my sons interest into his learning style.

My daughter has benefited greatly by the tutor's in depth knowledge of the SAT test and teaching methods. She says she understands algebra better after 2 hours of tutoring than after 1 year of high school algebra!

Erin K. from Columbus, OH

Helped him with the review of ACT and the tricks of interpreting the test. Will use Tom again for help with my younger son.

Tom has done a great job at figuring out how to best connect and then communicate with our son to optimize his learning.

Tom is doing an amazing job tutoring my 3rd grade son. My son has issues focusing and staying on task. Often times he drifts off and Tom is very patient with him. He gets him back on track. He never makes my son feel bad for getting an answer wrong, so this has boosted his confidence tremendously. Tom tutored him all summer and my 3rd grader is having an awesome start to the year! I am very pleased and grateful for Tom's help!

Stacy R. from Lewis Center, OH

My son never had to do much studying until he got to high school and found that he didn't really know how to study or how to do it efficiently. Tom has given him tips and strategies to help keep him focused on the task at hand. He has helped him tremendously in just the 3+ hours they have spent together. My son already seems more confident and proud of the work he is doing.

Zachery J. from Pataskala, OH

Tom did a wonderful job tutoring my son Zach for the ACT. He helped him to understand how too look at the question and understand what they are looking for. Plus so much more. My son has a better understanding now for looking at test questions. I would high recommend Tom for ACT tutoring.

Tom came to our first session ready to tutor "me". He was prepared to tutor a business professional, new to consulting, and looking for help with creative writing. He is insanely brilliant, but focuses and knows to speak directly to his audience and their needs. When the session began, he explained how creative thinking and writing will help with my approach to clients. He taught me to think outside the box as one way to think creatively and have conversations with clients. For instance, using the anatomy and math to draw parallels to the business world. Tom taught me to leverage skills and education from my past, and things others will know and remember, to develop these skills. Tom also took the time to read through example work I had on hand. He gave me direct feedback (good and bad) along with solutions on how to better my writing, such as the Literacy Definition book. Even though I went in needing help with creative writing, I left with so much more. Everything we discussed was relevant to my line of work and I'm so excited to go to the library to read up on the books we discussed. I look forward to meeting with Tom again! Our next session is on grammar and I look forward to the insight he has to provide and how I can better myself even more.
