autism

As an educator, I have been trained to work with students identified with autism disorder. I have been trained to teach grade level curriculum incorporating modifications on an as needed basis. For example, as with all students, but particularly this population, I have learned the importance of maintaining the following within the educational setting: routine, understandable expectations, reduction of visual and auditory stimuli, positive reinforcement for correct behavior and handling behavioral problems on an individual basis(example: separation, or involvement in an activity of enjoyment). I have also learned to modify the students' work using visual and auditory clues, according to individual needs, as well as integration of sensory diets where students become involved in movement and exercise in order to transition into the next learning activity.

ADD/ADHD

As a certified 1-8 teacher, having earned my Master's degree in Teacher Leadership, as well as subbing at all levels, I feel that I have worked with countless children labeled ADD, as well as ADHD. Not only did I have these students within my elementary classroom throughout my teaching career, I also taught special needs students as a unit.

Lorena L. from Lebanon, OH

Nancy has been tremendous. She has really improved our son's ability to relate what he has been working on to us and has been great in all areas.

Patricia W. from Amelia, OH

I like how Nancy asks my student questions about the vocabulary he reads. I noticed she also encourages him to read in a louder tone. She was reading today out loud and told him to notice how loud she sounds when she reads and asked him to do the same. She is always encouraging him to do his best and shows interest in his progress. She is an asset to his learning and I would recommend her to others!
