Marie

French tutor

Bonjour! I am originally from France but have been an Oklahoma resident since 2001. I have a strong academic background in the linguistic field and over four years of French teaching experience. I am also a certified examiner of the DELF/DALF Proficiency tests (French equivalent of the TOEFL) and can help you prepare these if you're interested in studying in France. I am looking forward to helping new students reach their language goals and become confident and able speakers!...

My first lesson with Marie was fairly good and I thought I had explained appropriately what I wanted to learn in regards to French. I've had many years of reading/writing French but my ability to speak/listen is as a beginner. I explained to her several times that, for awhile, I needed a teacher who would speak French slowly until I was able to recognize French phonetics. Also, I needed to learn about French phonetics as I had minimal knowledge. Then we could gradually reach a normal rate of speaking. But she continued to speak to me very fast during our lesson so I was frustrated and I didn't feel that I was learning what I wanted. I think, academically, Marie is a great teacher. If someone has no French knowledge or wants to concentrate on book learning and being able to read/write French proficiently, she would be a good choice of a tutor. But I've already had years of that type of teaching. I want to learn how to speak French naturally so I'm comfortable when I visit France. I'm a piano teacher so I recognize that a teacher must personalize lessons to fit the student. And I think she was trying to do that but she really didn't understand what I was trying to convey and what I want from French lessons, even though I explained it to her several times.
