Skyler

Specialized Techniques in Physics and Chemistry

My tutoring experience began when I was a sophomore in college studying chemistry and physics. I have tutored over 40 students in all aspects of Chemistry, Physics and Calculus and taught both semesters of general chemistry at OU. Many of my students are straight out of high school, but some of my favorite students have been those who came back to college for a career change. As a graduate student in Biochemistry with a degree in Chemistry and minor in Physics, I am able to help with almost...

GRE

In tutoring and teaching chemistry, I have developed a method that helps students to build solutions directly from the wording of the problem. This greatly simplifies even the toughest GRE questions. With adaptive tests such as the GRE it is also highly important to understand the scoring system and develop the proper strategy to use that system to your advantage. I share all of my study, memorizing and testing strategies with my GRE prep students.

calculus

Calculus is a powerful tool that can turn horribly complex algebra problems into effortless "plug and chug" type problems. It also has phenomenal physical applications. Every equation and process can be directly tied to applicable daily situations and tailored to any interests. My approach is to find the students current skills and develop them further through guided practice. I encourage students to develop a "tool box" of the many concepts and processes that we learn. This toolbox can become a powerful help when the student works on homework. People often say that math just isn't in their nature. I don't believe it! What I do believe is that they've just never had a math teacher who happened to be the same nature as they are. One on one tutoring allows me to focus on your individual interests, needs and learning style. Email me to set up a free consultation where we can talk and see just how we can match your learning style and learning needs.

algebra 2

Algebra is one of the basic sciences that everything else can be built on. A thorough understanding of algebra opens the possibilities to the most fulfilling pursuits and careers. Business, Economics, Chemistry, Physics, even Music and the Arts can all be understood more fully thanks to algebra. I teach algebra students the concepts and strategies that they need to know in order to use it efficiently in whichever field they choose. As always, I also pass along many general tips for studying and test taking as well. My goal is to prepare the student for class and for a life of learning.

I am a freshman in college majoring in engineering. I was taking hard classes and I owe it to Skyler for helping me pass every single one of my "weed out" classes. He's easy to get a hold of and he cares about every single one of his students. He communicates in a way that is easy to understand and he is just a great person.

Skyler has been quite an asset to me during my college chemistry course. I never took chemistry in high school and I needed a lot of help with everything from just getting my homework done to studying for my exams. Skyler was always ready to help with whatever I needed. It was always obvious he really understood all the material, but he never overloaded me by explaining things in too much depth when it wasn't necessary. I have made an A on every exam and currently have a 97 average in the course. Considering I basically left the fist lecture in tears thinking I would never be able to pass this class, a 97 is an amazing accomplishment. Tutoring is an investment decision I am happy I decided to make. Having Skyler to rely on throughout this class definitely decreased my overall stress level and saved me hours of inefficient studying on my own. He was always available via text or email if I had last minute questions and did an awesome job of explaining things on my level.

Skyler was very good to work around our schedule. He could help us with almost any chemistry question we had. Whenever I saw him outside of class he would help me with any questions I had. Skyler really cared about if we were understanding the principals in our class and was concerned for how we were doing in the class.
