Acting: As a director with several dozen productions to my credit, my specialty is working with actors in analyzing the text closely, beat by beat, and determining their motivations, emotional arc, and development. I believe in looking at the script for all the information the actor needs to know about his/her character; while improv work and "theater games" can also be valuable, the first place we look is the script, analyzing it closely both on paper and "on our feet" for what it tells us about the character. Directing: As a successful director with dozens of productions to my credit, I would love to work with budding directors on all the issues that a director faces: wow best to work with the actor in developing his/her character; how to work with designers on having the design reflect the overall themes and "look" of the shows; how to coordinate the various performances to make sure they're all on "the same page"; and most importantly, how to serve the playwright in bringing his/her script to life.
