Reading Specialist, Special Education Teacher, & Wilson Certified

I have been a teacher for 11 years, and am currently still teaching in a Chester County school district. I have worked with students from Kindergarten through 10th grade. I love seeing my students make progress that they have never been able to make before. I am a certified Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner. I have a Master's in Reading, and am working on a second Master's degree in Applied Behavioral Analysis. Additional certifications include: Reading Specialist K-12 Elementary Educatio...

ADD/ADHD

I have a BSED in Elementary Education and Special Education from West Chester University. I have a Master's in Reading as well. I have worked with students who have varying degrees of ADD or ADHD. What works for one child may not work for another. I find that the most important thing that I can do as a teacher is to make learning interesting and tap into what they enjoy learning about.

Aspergers

During my eight years of teaching special education, I have worked with students who were identified as having Aspergers. I have created and implemented plans to help meet their specific needs with the IEP team. I have a BSED in Special Education and Elementary Education and a Master's in Reading.

autism

During my undergraduate degree, I volunteered for approximately three years in a Kindergarten through second grade verbal behavior autism support classroom. Additionally, during my 8 years as a learning support teacher, many of my students have been identified as having autism. I have developed plans to meet their needs within the school environment (e.g., transitions, sensory needs, knowing how to ask for a break, and the like). I know basic sign language to communicate with students who cannot speak.
