I have been on many journeys throughout my life and have tons of different experiences; ski instructor, varsity football, lifeguard, home health aide, little league announcer, treasurer, etc,. One of these led me to be a student at Penn State University. While I was there I changed majors and bounced around trying to decipher what it is that I wanted to do with my life. ADD/ADHD
While working in the special needs world, it is quite common to come across ADD/ADHD along with another diagnosis. The key to working with students who have ADD/ADHD is to create a stimulating and creative learning environment in which they can thrive. While at the IU, I helped develop a way in which to keep the attention of our students while doing a craft. This idea was called "creative station craft." A craft was broken up into three parts and there was an activity correlated to that portion of the craft, i.e. a snowman would have a clip from Frosty the Snowman play. This method kept the students engaged for a much more substantial time frame. I was also assigned to aide in the redirection of students who have fallen off task and try to bring them back on topic.

autism
I have worked with Bayada Home Health Care since 2011 as well as the local intermediate unit for over 4 years. Structuring lessons and activities to be fun and keep the interest of our students is vital to our success rate. It is also essential to know how to diffuse a situation before it escalates out of control. With over 8 years of experience in dealing with Autism, I have developed many different skill sets as well as techniques. The use of communication boards, ipads, dinavox, sign language, writing and speech are all forms of communication that had to be adapted into daily activities and curriculum. I work closely alongside speech pathologists, teachers, aides, occupational therapists and parents to ensure that consistency is established across all fronts.
