I have always loved school and that is because I love to learn. Perhaps this is why I chose to teach. I started my teaching career later in my life because I was a wife and mother first. While working at Palmetto State E-cademy, I had taught two students with Asperger's Syndrome. The time I spent working alone with each one helped them achieve success in my classes and in other classes by implementing specific skills. Both of these students have gone onto college now. The first one had a failing grade in English until I worked with him. He finished the year with an A. I also taught him in PE and he was motivated enough that he lost 50 pounds that semester. My colleagues, who are SPED teachers, have told me that I excel with the special needs students and have encouraged me to study for my SPED certification.
