Reading, Math, Academic Support Tutor

I am an experienced educator with over 18 years of experience. Most of my career I was employed as a tutor, teacher, and lastly, principal of a small private school. In tutoring, there are four essential parts in what I believe is needed to help a student become successful. One, identify the student's interests or what a student likes to do for fun. I use this information and try to incorporate it into some of the lessons to help keep the interest of the student. Two, identify strength...

ADD/ADHD

I work well with students who struggle with ADD/ADHD and help them use it as a strength rather than weakness. I ran a special education private school and tutored, taught, and designed programs for students with ADD and other challenges. I am well in tune with study strategies and accommodations used to help these students succeed. More importantly, I embrace students with learning differences and appreciate their gifts rather than their limitations.

Aspergers

I worked with Asperger students for nearly 10 years. I worked on a team of administrators and developed programs for students with Aspergers. It is not always an easy journey. I can help your child in subjects in which I am qualified to teach. I understand where students with Aspergers get "stuck" and know that vocabulary used is very important. Students with Aspergers are very interesting to work with and I learn something new each time. I find the parents of children with Aspergers very knowledgable because they live with these wonderful children and daily routines can be difficult. I know there is support in our area for you too, and can refer you to support groups if needed.

Mike has been working with our son since last March. We found him as we were frustrated with our son getting no help at school. Our son has come so far, and has so many more "tools" to tackle his phonics problem and continues to improve all the time. The school just kept saying "keep reading with him." Mike knew it wasn't a fluency issue, it was phonics. He also is able to bring our son into a good mood no matter what his attitude is when I drop him off. We had a couple weeks break before starting our school year this year and our son kept asking when he was going to see him again. As much as he fights help at home, he LOVES tutoring. So thankful we found Mike!!!!

Mr. A is passionate about teaching. He has reached my son with his style of teaching where no one else has in three years of special education. He genuinely cares that my son becomes successful. My son has been diagnosed with ADD and Michael has so much experience working with these kids that results were immediate. He took the time to conference with all of my son's teachers and develop strategies to motivate him to strive for better grades. He has become excited about school again because his tutor has given him confidence and continues to work with him not only on his academic skills but his self esteem. I consider the return on this investment priceless and one of the best decisions I have ever made.
