Study Skills/Anxiety/Academics/Executive Function

As a Leadership/Success Coach and educational consultant, I help students (remedial to A/P) develop skills in three key areas - personal development, academics, and executive function (study skills). I identify elements which impede learning, then help them change negative patterns (i.e. inactivity, lack of preparation, avoidance, poor time management). I partner with parents to help students become self-motivated, self-disciplined, and accountable. Students learn by doing (we all know teen...

ADD/ADHD

In my alternative certification program I studied various types of learning disabilities and their corresponding challenges they present to students (i.e. ADD/ADHD and how it affects cognitive abilities). Additionally I have 10+ years experience working specifically with children who have ADD/ADHD (I have two children, each with ADHD/ADD) and I assisted the majority of former tutor students with the challenges associated with ADD/ADHD such as focus and distractability difficulties, and the development of time management, organization, pro-activeness and goal-setting skills.

My daughter is in fourth grade and began struggling with math. Normally an A student, she was now getting B's and her confidence was falling. I called Pamela to schedule a tutoring session and from the first phone conversation she put me at ease. However, my daughter did not want a tutor. When I explained this to Pamela she referred to herself as an Academic Coach and this made all of the difference. My daughter's math grades improved, but most of all her confidence came back. The school year is about to end and we are taking a break from the "coach." However, when the school year resumes we plan to start up again with Pamela!!

Ronda S. from Hurst, TX

Pamela is great with my daughter. My daughter is very ADHD and very hard to get to concentrate, but she does very well with my child and is helping her a lot with reading!

When my step son moved from Puerto Rico the summer of 2013 we noticed he needed help in vocabulary and essays. We worked with his own teachers but the following summer before his senior year we found Pam after a long search. She has not only been amazing with Giovanni as an English tutor but has even helped him work through situations that had been causing him anxiety. This is what he wrote about her: "Having moved from Puerto Rico to Texas, I had little experience in writing and I was lost in my concealed emotional turmoil. From the day my parents found Pam, I began noticing changes in me; it was as if I was being freed from my troubles. It became more clear when I saw an improvement in my essay writing skills and a boost in my SAT essay score went up 300 points. I was feeling happier and stress free as well. She shone the light through the darkness that thwarted me from becoming my true self. All poetic endeavors aside, Pam relieved me from nearly all my anxiety (no medications). She is kind and understanding and does her utmost best to help out with whatever problems one might have, whether they'd be academic or personal. I highly recommend her! Giovanni" As I read his recommendation I realize more and more how much he has matured and how his vocabulary has improved compared to summer 2013.

I have had several tutors unsuccessfully try to gain the attention and trust of my 10-year-old ADHD daughter in the past year. Until we met Pamela, math had been a complete nightmare. My daughter enjoys going to her tutoring sessions with Pamela. Pamela is able to break everything down so that she understands. She did this by back tracking to basic fundamentals that my daughter was lacking understanding in. She has been so patient and positive with my daughter and is really helping with her overall confidence. So happy that we found her as our tutor!!!

Shea F. from Colleyville, TX

Ms. Pam has done a wonderful job with our daughter. She is very understanding and her lessons enable the student succeed. She is very pleasant and punctual. We are blessed to have her tutor our daughter. I would highly recommend Ms. Pam.

Aprile L. from Hurst, TX

So far we have loved Pamela. We've been with her a month now and I think we can see improvement, even in attitude! Thanks.

Mindy H. from Fort Worth, TX

My son has been taking lessons from Pamela for only a short time now but we have already seen tremendous strides in his writing. The tools she has taught him are so useful and he can easily recall them in class and during testing. I wish we would have found her sooner!

Lauren W. from Bedford, TX

Has helped build up the confidence in our daughter to go from a "B" ready level at beginning of year to an "A" halfway through the year. Very patient and understanding of her needs.

Kathleen W. from North Richland Hills, TX

Pamela took the time and patience to really find out where our daughter needed the most help. My daughter loved her and is actually excited and looking forward to working with her tutor! That is a huge improvement and a great blessing to us.

Jennifer H. from Florence, TX

I have been working with Pamela for a few weeks now with my English Comp assignments. She is very attentive and always makes time to review my assignments. I scored 10/10 on my last assignment she tutored me on. I would give her 5 stars all day long. I would recommend her to anyone and she is a pleasure to work with.

Kimberly H. from Fort Worth, TX

My son has been tutored by Pamela for roughly the past 6 months. Initially, we were only going to do some tutoring throughout the summer to prepare him for 3rd grade; however because of the exceptional results we began to see from tutoring, we continued to keep it up throughout the school year. It is evident that Pamela has really taken the time to listen to my thoughts and concerns about my son and his needs. She has been and continues to be an active communicator with me regarding his progress, attitude, and overall experience. She has reached out to his teachers regarding his assignments and projected outlook for the weeks to come. My son has gained a confidence in the classroom he did not have before. He is the first to speak up instead of hiding out and trying to be avoided. He is genuinely excited when he brings home a test grade he didn't know he was capable of making. He has an overall change of attitude when it comes to school. I attribute all of these profound changes to Pamela and her tutoring style. I appreciate the fact that he is not forced to sit at a desk with only a pen and paper to work with. Pamela is constantly changing things up for him, offering board games, computer games, and other various nontraditional methods of learning. She is truly concerned about my son and strives to make sure what she is doing is working for him. Thank you Pamela!

Kim M. from Boyd, TX

Pamela has been very patient with my kids and I am very pleased with her willingness to help. She is helping with school work and giving awesome tips on how to get organized. This will help with improving grades too. We appreciate her very much!!

Jan M. from Weatherford, TX

I have a third grader who started off the year high A's but now is low B's. We found Pam and have had a few sessions. She is always prepared and has my daughter excited about learning. She covers concepts that my daughter is struggling with and has contacted her teacher to better understand what those are. I am planning on continuing through the summer to keep her skills up for the Fourth grade. Pam always returns calls, texts and emails within a few hours at most. I would highly recommend her. My daughter grades have all gone up -- 4 A's and a couple of B's much better than she was doing. Thanks Pam!

Jamey U. from Weatherford, TX

Dear Pamela, Thank God I have finally found the perfect tutor for my ADD son! When I was looking through the profiles of tutors, I was looking for someone special, that I thought could help me get through to my 9 year old son before its too late and he completely shuts down on school? And when I read Pamela P.'s profile, I was really impressed and she stuck out on the page from the start. And then after the first session with my son, I was even more amazed at how well she handled him, and had him focused for 2 whole hours with out a glitch? Wow, now I knew that she was the one that could get his attention and make learning fun for him! She was awesome! Now after the second session, he is wanting to learn and play the computer math games all the time! It's really a 190 degree turn around for him. Thank you Pamela for helping us in one of the most critical times in my son's life. I really believe with her help and patience and knowledge he will make it through the 3rd grade now. And continue to want to learn and grow! He had almost given up, he hated school and didn't want to even want to go, because he was different than all the rest of the kids! Until last week, his teacher called me to let me know he made a 100 on his reading test! And only 3 kids in the whole class made a 100!! Thank you Pamela for giving him the confidence and the want to again! I would recommend you to any mother who need some serious help with their child!!! Thank you again! You have been a God send to this family!!!

Button W. from Crowley, TX

Pamela was our math tutor this summer for our 9 year old daughter. Pamela's webpage on WyzAnt was very impressive and with her background in teaching and special needs, we knew she would be the kind of professional we needed for preparation for 4th grade. We chose to drive to Arlington rather than having someone close to home for the level of expertise. Pamela was always early to each tutoring session. She was always well prepared for each lesson and never wasted any time during the session. Pamela is very soft spoken and kind which was perfect for my child as she listens more when a teacher is not overbearing. Pamela has great skills at keeping a child focused and knows when to take a break if needed. She went above and beyond by making sure my daughter not only reviewed 3rd grade math and tried to solidify those skills. She also introduced many of the core items they will be covering in 4th grade like pre-algebra, roman numerals, division (which we touched on in 3rd but had trouble grasping) and much more. I not only highly recommend her to anyone with a child that needs focus in math but will use her in the future to keep my daughter's skills moving forward so she does not get behind. A+ is the grade Pamela gets from this mother of two. I thank her from the bottom of our heart for starting our new year off on the right foot.

Linda F. from Irving, TX

I was very impressed with Pamela and felt very comfortable leaving my child. I appreciated her interest by listening to my concerns. I feel that she will be a great asset in my daughters learning process. My daughter really liked her and felt comfortable with her.

Bobby W. from Southlake, TX

Pamela is an excellent tutor. She really connected with my daughter and I'm beginning to see changes in my daughter's behavior.

Patricia G. from Fort Worth, TX

Today was the first time my son has been open about his learning disability and acknowledged his weaknesses & where he thinks he needs the most help. Pamela helped him set daily & weekly goals and for me as a mom I hope to learn how to study with him.. He is really wanting to break old habits and set up structured studying times and learn and not be embarrassed to ask for help. Pam is kind & patient and we are looking forward to helping him be more confident for the next school year.

Heather H. from Fort Worth, TX

Ms. Pam is very patient and is teaching my son different aspects of writing. He is moving right along in his summer reading/writing requirement!

Olivia M. from Bedford, TX

After only 2 sessions with Pamela, studying and practice are already much more enjoyable in our home! I feel like so much learning has taken place in such a short time, and not just regarding math but other important skills as well, such as good note taking, study habits and the importance of taking responsibility. I am very thankful to have found her and look forward to future sessions and all the progress I'm confident they will bring.

Roe S. from Keller, TX

I like how Pam covers all aspects of my son's reading comprehension problem. She has a lot of great ideas on how he can reach his goals - she truly cares about her students. I will continue her tutoring throughout this next school year and would definitely recommend her.

Dawn M. from Arlington, TX

This was our first time hiring a tutor. I have to say Pamela is awesome at identifying quickly the real struggle the student is having. This was very impressive and imperative for setting up a plan best suitable for each individual student to excel.

Cira M. from Fort Worth, TX

Pam is very knowledgeable and professional tutor. Very accommodating, helpful and kind as well. We only had a few sessions and had already noticed progress on subject our daughter was struggling with. Will absolutely recommend to others.

Kim B. from Bedford, TX

Pam has been tutoring my son for the last year. He can be a handful and she has been very patient & kind. She is very prepared for each session and develops a lesson plan according to what we determine are his needs and grade level. She has been very good at giving him positive reinforcement and encourages him to succeed. His grades have improved but best of all, he is understanding the material rather than just memorizing. I would definitely recommend Pamela as a tutor. We got lucky finding her!!

Dana H. from Roanoke, TX

Pamela has been tutoring our middle school son for over a year in math and has helped him greatly. She has also helped him in other subjects when needed. She is very patient and very encouraging and has helped to build our son's confidence especially in math. I highly recommend Pamela if you are looking for a tutor who challenges your child and wants to help them succeed.

Abby M. from Frisco, TX

My son is slowly making progress and beginning to like Math again. Grateful to Pam for her patience and teaching him the basics that he needs.

Karlene V. from Southlake, TX

Pamela is a wonderful tutor. She has been tutoring both our 16 year old daughters. She not only helps them with their assignments, but teaches them study skills and tips to help them develop good study habits. Pam is very dedicated to her work and takes it very seriously. The girls were reluctant to go to a tutor, but after they met and worked with Pam, they look forward to her tutoring sessions. Pam has a very upbeat personality and seems to have a natural ability to capture the attention of teenagers and help motivate them. Thank you Pam!

Shannon T. from Plano, TX

Pam has been a wonderful motivator for my daughter. My daughter had a tough last semester with failing all her classes. We hired Pam and she has motived our daughter to keep focused on her classes and starting over with straight A's the first three weeks. Pam has a plan to keep her on target with all her classwork.

Tina T. from Southlake, TX

My daughter loves Ms. Pam! She is helping her prepare for the ACT test and recommended some great strategies for time management and studying.

Brady J. from Sanger, TX

We were looking for a tutor that would be flexible in tutoring times and Pam was not only able to meet at varying times throughout the week, but her tutoring style was in line with what we were looking for, which was more like how students think and learn instead of how a normal tutor or teacher teaches. I would highly recommend her for early learners all the way up to a higher education learner. I know I could reach her at anytime of the day as her response time was almost immediate. Our 12 year old daughter has only been to 3 sessions and her grades are already starting to show progress as the teacher, without knowing of her tutoring, asked what has changed. I give Pam 5 stars and wish I would have had her when I was in school.

Vinay G. from Southlake, TX

Having Pam as a tutor over the my spring semester benefitted me so much. Never have i met with a tutor who is ready to put her personal time just for her students and she is a tutor who really wants to see her students succeed whether its in college or high school. punctuality as a tutor is great she is mostly on time the only times that she has been late which is by a minute or two and thats due to traffic. her communication and expertise is fantastic she always finds alternatives when she is explaining a concept so that the student can get a clear picture. i would highly recommend anyone who is looking for a tutor to teach their kids it would definitely be Pam. i look forward to working more with her as the time comes by.
