Sarah

Ph.D. Psychologist and Life Coach

A few things about me: I have a PhD in Clinical Psychology and had a private therapy practice for 12 years in Texas. I am also a Certified Martha Beck Life Coach. I moved for two years from Texas to Northern Virginia in 2013, but now I am back to my home in Austin Texas. I love to laugh and tend to laugh quite loudly. I love eating chocolate chip cookies, going swimming, and hanging out with my dog—though not normally all at the same time. But, more than all of that, I love helping chil...

autism

I have been working with clients diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder for over 20 years. Throughout graduate school for my Ph.D. in clinical psychology, I worked in an Autism clinic providing assessments, skills training, individual and family therapy, parent support groups, and social skills groups. My dissertation was on parent support groups for parents who had a child diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. I continued a focus on working with this population once I opened my private therapy practice and in my tutoring. I have extensive experience in strengthening the executive functioning skills necessary for academic success and I am well-versed in the writing, implementing, and monitoring of IEP goals.

ADD/ADHD

As a clinical psychologist, I have gained an extensive knowledge background on attentional disorders and have significant experience working with children, teenagers, and adults who have a diagnosis of ADHD or ADD. I have over 20 years' experience in helping individuals learn how to minimize the impact of their difficulties, build on their strengths, and develop or improve their executive functioning skills. Also, I am quite patient and not easily frustrated when someone I am working with has difficulty staying on task.

Aspergers

This is my specialty area (and I really enjoy working with this group.) My PhD program in clinical psychology offered a subspecialty in autism spectrum disorders and I worked in an autism spectrum disorder clinic for 5 years. In my private practice, I continued to work extensively with children, teenagers, and adults diagnosed with Asperger's Disorder. Our work was often centered around developing the necessary executive functioning skills for successfully handling both academic tasks and daily living. Difficulties that I can address include problems with reading comprehension, problem solving, organizational skills, cognitive flexibility, adapting to change, and making inferences and judgments.

Susan O. from Takoma Park, MD

Sarah's expertise is helping a young adult who has been out of school for a while. It's hard to sustain motivation when the mountain is so high. She's doing a great job!

Sylvain P. from Rosemount, MN

Sarah help us correct a text at the last minute. She did an excellent job, responded quickly and went beyond expectations by researching the topic on her own to validate content and form. Very effective and nice to work with. Thank you!
