I have spent the last two years studying the history, culture, and modern political climate of Guatemala. In college, I studied Spanish and Architecture, focusing on how informal housing settlements ("slums") occur in countries like Guatemala and others in Central America. Through this study, I was exposed to Mayan languages (K'iche' and Kaqchikel) and the importance of literacy and education advocacy.
