Highly Experienced Tutor: Math, Reading, Writing, and Test Preparation

From October 2009 through August 2014, I worked as a tutor (20+ hours per week) with a highly respected tutoring company. I tutored students of all ages in the areas of reading, writing, and math. I also prepared students for the SAT and ISEE. I started tutoring through WyzAnt in September 2013. I have continued to work with students of all ages in the areas of reading, writing, and math, and I have continued to prepare students for the SAT and ISEE. In general, about half of my students ar...

Microsoft Outlook

I have been using Microsoft Outlook for at least five years. I retrieve and send mail, with and without attachments. I regularly customize my emails with fonts of various sizes and colors. I save drafts of emails if I'm not ready to send them yet and retrieve them when I am ready to make my final edits and send them. I manage my emails by setting up rules for putting emails into folders. I know how to sort my emails by date, sender, etc. I know how to search for specific emails and I know how to delete one or more emails. I also make extensive use of the calendar function. I regularly set up reminders, both one-time and recurring, for doctor appointments, bill payments, family events, and many other things. I know how to set the amount of time between the reminder and the actual event.

I have a Bachelor of Music degree (B.M.) in bassoon performance from the Indiana University School of Music. From fourth grade through high school, I played the flute in school bands, took private lessons, and participated in solo competitions, where I received superior ratings. I was invited to be in the All-State Band during my sophomore year of high school. I went to a boarding school for my last two years of high school, where I continued to take lessons, performed solos during the chapel time, and played for the school musicals. In college, I majored in math, but on a whim decided to take bassoon lessons during my senior year. Since I already had a strong background in a wind instrument, I was able to progress quickly. After college, I got a job as a computer programmer, which I really liked, but after two years, I felt restless and decided to get a second bachelor's degree in music. During my adult life, I have not pursued music professionally, but music has continued to be a big part of my life. I have taught private flute lessons and group recorder classes, as well as group choir chime classes (similar to handbells). I also directed the pre-school choir at my church and taught pre-school music classes for two different Mother's Day Out programs.

precalculus

I have a Bachelor's degree in math and got 100% on the WyzAnt Precalculus proficiency test. I helped a college student pass her College Algebra class, which she was failing before I started working with her. Her College Algebra class was very similar to a precalculus class.

After only a few weeks of instructional time with Ms. Beverly, my daughter passed her SAT test. Her combined reading and math scores will get her into the college of her choice. Her scores increased by 50 points. She is now standing with confidence. Ms. Beverly was a very calm and patient instructor. We appreciate your encouragement.

We were lucky to have Beverly as our daughter's tutor for quite awhile. She always came prepared with homework/practice worksheets for my daughter to work on her own and they would discuss it in her next visit. She was very patient with my daughter who has attention difficulties and can be very resistant to anything she doesn't want to do. She also has learning disabilities and gets easily frustrated when she doesn't understand something right away. However, Beverly charged ahead trying to redirect her and encourage her as much as she could. Unfortunately, we all came to the conclusion that this arrangement wasn't working for either party. So sadly we decided to part ways. She is an excellent tutor and anyone who is lucky enough to get her should treasure her because she is truly a gift.

Beverly is bright, reliable, resourceful, and patient. She was able to explain my son's math chapter lesson to him in ways that the teacher nor myself could in 1 lesson. Using key points, different resources, and patience, he developed an understanding of the subject matter. I highly recommend Beverly, and I will continue to use her. My son is in the 5th grade and he was smiling at the beginning, the middle and most of all at the end of the lesson. He said," I understand now." Thank you.
