I took Latin with Karl for about 6 months. I went from knowing very little about Latin to eventually taking the SAT Latin Subject Test. Karl was an extremely focused tutor. Often times, when looking around for tutors, you will notice that most of them don't really know what they are doing. I tried a couple of lessons with other tutors, and they lacked a clear focus, and it seemed like I was doing the really teaching. Karl, on the other hand, is actually a true expert. From the first lesson its apparent that he is not only skilled in Latin, but that he is an expert teacher as well. Try a lesson - you can always stop if you don't like him, although I'm pretty confident you will be as impressed as I was. He is a really nice guy and tutor, and you won't regret learning with him!

I came to the US as an exchange student from Germany. Before that I took one year Latin in my German High School. During my exchange year I got the idea to apply to a boarding school in Germany where I can finish my last three years of High School. The only problem was that the students there had to take Latin since fifth grade so their knowledge of Latin was much more sophisticated than mine. Then I took Latin tutoring for about six months with Karl and learned much more than I could've ever learned in school. He looked at my knowledge and created an individual plan for me so that I can pass the Latin test that allows me to visit the boarding school. Karl's modernized techniques by using video conferences made it much easier for me to meet whenever I had time. I'm sure this technique was at least as much efficient as personal tutoring. Even when I arrived back in Germany we had one or two video conferences that worked fabulously. When I got the results of the test I had to take at the boarding school I was more than happy because after about six months (!!!) of Latin tutoring with Karl I had the same knowledge of the students who have taken Latin for five years! Karl wasn't only a tutor for me but also a teacher since he was my only source I got the Latin knowledge from. I encourage everyone to contact Karl not only if they struggle in school but also if they need to be taught Latin!

My son loves Latin. As an 8th grader, he worked with Karl for almost all of the 2013-2014 academic year to substitute for the Latin class he was taking at school as a required course. We did this because he was passionate about the subject but held back by the depth and pace of his class at school. Instead, we were able to arrange for him to work with Karl each day and at the same time that he would have had Latin class at school, sometimes more frequently if time allowed. He had daily homework and weekly tests and the grade that Karl gave him is now part of his school transcript. Everything about the arrangement was perfect. Karl is a wonderful teacher that inspired my son daily. It was his favorite, most challenging, and most enriching class of the year. The logistics of both scheduling and working remotely was always easy. If there was ever a problem, it was on my son's end due to technical deficiencies at his school. They finished more than a year of Latin in about 6 months. My son placed a full year ahead of where he would have been had he stayed in his school class and he was able to enter on an accelerated track so that he'll enroll in Latin 4 as a sophomore at a very academically intense school. He's actually taking a full classics concentration at his high school and is hoping to work on an independent study project with Karl this summer. I largely credit Karl for helping my son discover this passion and can't recommend him highly enough. In fact, I have recommended him to both family members and friends who have subsequently worked with Karl for different reasons -- one was just completely new to the language and one was struggling through some of the more complex grammar. Both, I believe, were very happy with their respective outcomes.
