reading

I have a master's degree in TESOL and much of my graduate research was done with reading. I have experience working with students of all ages, including students with special needs. My bottom-up methodology is focused on blending phonemic awareness with phonetic skills in early level readers. With students who have already mastered the basics, I seek our interest-appropriate texts to help them engage with what they are reading while working on comprehension.

SAT reading

SAT writing

I offer tutoring for the writing section of the SAT. For this section, I work with students to write clearly and concisely within the allotted time. We work with organization, vocabulary, and grammar. I create many resources myself, but all prompt questions come directly from the College Board, which uses prompts from the actual test.

Spanish

TOEFL

I have my master's degree in TESOL. As a teacher, I understand the importance that standardized tests such as the TOEFL have. When tutoring for the TOEFL, I employ materials from ETS, the makers of the TOEFL, as well as other online resources and activities I create myself. While I recommend at least three months of preparation before the test, I have worked with students with as little as a couple of weeks to prepare.

vocabulary

I have a master's degree in TESOL. My final research project emphasized vocabulary acquisition through reading blended with dynamic teaching techniques. When studying new vocabulary, I believe the most effective techniques are those which treat the new words as a natural part of the language instead of focusing on them out of context.

Ileana M. from Guaynabo, PR

Margaret was very attentive with my son and very easy to get in touch. She tutored my son for the TOEFL test and he did great! Thanks for your help.

Donna J. from San Juan, PR

My son loves his tutor, all he could talk about was how he learned XYZ. We are an American family here for business and needed a tutor. Her profile fit the description when we met her and after the first lesson we love her. She gives praise to my 6 year old and encourages him to learn, she's awesome. Great ratings highly recommended. She makes him feel happy and want to learn.
