Ciao a tutti! I'm Roberta from Modena, Italy, birthplace of Pavarotti, Maserati and me! My region, Emilia Romagna, is famous for many things. Among these are opera singers Luciano Pavarotti and Mirella Freni. Delectable foods like Parmigiano Reggiano, Aceto Balsamico di Modena and tortellini. And not least and certainly never last, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati. In Modena, I gave private literature and English lessons to high school students. Now, like Columbus, I've discovered America...

After 2 hours, intense as they should be, I am beginning to construct sentences in Italian and have been able to have some conversation. Roberta is a wonderful teacher, always encouraging me to just say what I know based on what I have learned so that it becomes meaningful and in the right direction. She teaches cognitive restructuring so that being right the first time is not the point. What is right is the struggle with the new material, the cognitive integration over repetition and the eventual learning to speak, albeit with mistakes but without embarrassment. I am looking forward to continue working with her.
