Master's degree in Education. Focus on success for all students.

I enjoy working with adult students. We, as adults, have an end-goal in mind: getting a degree, getting a job, or getting a promotion. It is that focus and drive that enables us to identify where and how we need help. I also enjoy working with young people who posses the ownership of their learning path. My most successful young learners accepted help and encouragement, while using the skills discussed in a lesson for their own empowerment in school. I focus on the skill at hand, the tools...

algebra 1

algebra 2

High school algebra 2 requires students to dig deeper than the basic principles introduced in elementary algebra (algebra 1.) Algebra 2 introduces functions, f(x), quadratic equations and applications, parabolas, and trigonometric functions. Students who lack a strong foundation in Algebra 1 tend to face challenges in Algebra 2. I can help with this, as I have several strategies and a very diverse background with both the educational and technical application of these skills. I use the book Algebra and Trigonometry with Analytic Geometry, by Swokowski and Cole, 10th edition. This is a college level book and I am confident it will help with learning the concepts of the course.

precalculus

College level precalculus is a tricky course for students, but it is not impossible. I strongly recommend finishing college level algebra before attempting precal. If you are ready for precal and in need of a tutor, I can help. I use the book Precalculus, Functions and Graphs, 7th edition, by Swokowski and Cole. I also have a student solutions manual with full solution explanations.

statistics

I am very comfortable with statistics. I finished the course with a solid A. Unfortunately, several students struggle with this course and never find the help they need. Please do not wait; get a tutor right away! I use the book Statistics, a First Course, Seventh Edition. It is an older version for the course, but the information is still accurate and up to date. I would be happy to help you finish the course with a good grade.

study skills

I have taught study skills to many different levels, ages, and types of students for several years. The key to study skill success is to identify the learner's strategies, strengths, needs, and goals. Some strategies that make study skills a success include creating an accommodating study area, tracking assignments, increasing focus, and abiding by a consistent schedule. Study skills may include learning how to scan for main ideas, building vocabulary, learning research methods, improved mathematics concepts, building a base for scientific method and inquiry, writing with a "voice," test-taking strategies, and test anxiety strategies. I can help home-schooled students as well as students enrolled in public, private, or online schools.

Jane B was requested to help my son prep for the asvab. She was thoughtful in her approach to test take strategies. Jane aided my son in raising his score approx 30%. Now that he has taken the test and on his way we would like to thank her for her help. I would recommend her.
