ADD/ADHD

I have a Special Education background and was trained at Boston University. My focus was with children with Learning Disabilities and what was then called Educable Mentally Retarded. For two years I was a Special Education teacher in Norwich, CT, with a classroom of 12 students, ages 8-12. Currently, I tutor two students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADD/ADHD behavior. As a substitute teacher, I often visit classrooms with children who have these challenges and offer one-on-one assistance in both academics and social skills. Much of my work is in helping these students organize their work, stay on task, and allow rest time of 5 minutes between work time and time to have a gentle conversation. I also grew up with a retarded younger sister and have personal experience with compassion, sensitivity and patience on a day-to-day basis.
