Master's in Teaching with Math, English, Test Prep, ESL, and Computers
I started my work out of college as a middle school teacher. Then, I worked in the business world to learn how knowledge is used outside the academic environment. It helped prepare me to teach students what lies ahead after school. Wanting to learn new cultures and contribute to the education of those in another country, I joined the Peace Corps and went to work in Lesotho, S. Africa, for two years preparing high school juniors and seniors for the Cambridge O-Level Exams with math and Engl...

I started working with computers when I was in high school in 1980 and learned BASIC programming. Since that time, I've taught programming in the middle school in Visual Basic. I've also programming in VBA most recently for an Excel update function. I was also responsible for our network at our satellite office working for GE as well as web-based instruction on parts of the GE system.

Macintosh
I started my computer experience with a Macintosh. While I was working in the schools, we used Macintosh computers. While working in an office, I was responsible for getting iPhones up and running for people when they ordered new ones. Since androids work from a windows-based model now, it's a matter of learning how to do a particular operation on the Mac given the available software.

The concentrations for my Master's in Teaching were math and English. These two topics are the focus of the GRE. I also helped students prepare for standardized tests both in the high schools here with the WASL and with students overseas when they prepared for their Cambridge examinations. The quantitative and analytic sections of the GRE are similar to the Cambridge exam my students took. My preparation with them involved tests from previous years combined into one exam for class. The verbal section of the GRE is similar to portions of the English Cambridge exam.

We have seen both our daughter's grades and confidence increase since she has been tutored by Cynthia. They began during the last school year for Geometry and have continued this year with Algebra II. Throughout, Cynthia has been patient, professional, kind, and knowledgeable. We will continue to work with Cynthia as long as we can.

Great lesson. Throughout the lessons, I have seen my French-speaking son gain confidence with English. Cynthia found the right techniques to get him captivated by other different subjects (math, art, map-reading, grammar, etc.) He was so interested that he managed to overcome some of his shyness with English. This lesson covered a range of very creative activities that gave my son an idea of what school will be like. Cynthia has understood in no time how to manage and challenge a high-energy child. She has carefully prepared the lessons and had the right set of activities for my son's personality. Well done!

My grandson attempted to take the SSAT test without any help for the first time in London and failed terribly. He had a three week half term break and came to visit me in Seattle. I decided to find a tutor to help him. WyzAnt came to my rescue and gave me a few tutors' names who might be readily available at the time. Cynthia's name appeared and I felt she was the right one for my grandson after reading the review. I emailed her and got a response immediately. After seven days of intensive hard work, my grandson returned to school in London and took the test again. His mother and I were thrilled when the test score came back. It is unbelievable! Thank you Cynthia!

Our 8th grade daughter began tutoring with Cynthia when she began to have trouble with algebra concepts in class. As Cynthia has valuable teaching expertise with middle school math, she was able to hone in on specific areas of difficulty. Together we have begun to work out a tutoring strategy that will assist our daughter to not only complete her class work, but also review areas of weakness. We really appreciated Cynthia's willingness to spend the time to discuss our daughter's unique needs, and come up with a plan that would help her.

I asked Cynthia to help teach me Microsoft Access so I could develop a database to audit and report deficiencies to management. She was careful to show me the basic concepts so I could learn them and build on it. She asked if I wanted to use the mouse to perform the design and reporting features. She helped me with the basic steps and it helped a lot.

My family immigrated to US last year and now my son has Cynthia's ESL lesson. My son likes this lesson and always enjoys to talk with Cynthia.

Cynthia was not particularly versed in Apple products which was my mistake for not asking prior to securing her services. She was overall though very helpful and I'd recommend her others.

Love to study reading and speaking English with Cynthia. It helps a lot for boy who has never visited USA.

In their 1st session, Cynthia did a good job helping my son learn key concepts he needs in order to be successful in his algebra 2 class.

Cynthia has really helped me with math skills and has an ability to explain in the way I can understand and grasp concepts that were difficult for me before.

Only two sessions so far, and my son is more optimistic and organized. I like the way she treats him as an intelligent individual who can benefit from her assistance as opposed to trying to be his buddy. She knows her stuff. We are grateful and look forward to seeing more progress.

My son is in 5th grade now and we are in the process for applying a private school. Thus, he needs to take ISEE test. Cynthia has provided a lot of great advice about how he should prepare and how he can improve his result in a short of period of time. I was so impressed. If we need any help in the future, we will definitely connect with her again.

In studying for my final, Cynthia helped me go over each subject, making absolute sure that I not only could solve the work, but also understand it as well.
Diana V. from Sammamish, WA
As a student, I felt smarter in class after just 2 lessons. It's amazing how quick she can teach and how much she can teach. My parents intended to have her just to prepare me for the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam), but they decided to keep her for longer.

Cynthia was able to jump in and help my daughter with 9th grade Geometry and help her get an A on the semester final! Thank you Cynthia!
