I thought her use of playing "Go Fish" was a brilliant and fun way of learning to count in Japanese. It's a bit nerve racking trying to pick a good tutor for your child, let alone doing it on-line. Ms. G. is an excellent teacher. She, being a native speaker who still visits Japan, has a mastery of the language as is it is used by real people in the present day. We focus on the most polite form of the language, but she can also tell you how you would phrase some statements differently if you were relaxing with friends. Another thing that I really like about Ms. G. is that she can break down phrases or words into the smaller words that that they are made of so that you can truly understand what you're saying. In addition to knowledgeable, she is also friendly and encouraging. I am glad to have her as my teacher.

Fumiko is of course very skilled in her abilities to teach Japanese to students with a myriad of approaches to learning the language. She emphasizes focus on reading and speaking the language because exposure to reading and reading aloud is one of the best ways to become fluent in a language. On top of this, she is very careful about pointing out small mistakes that might go otherwise unnoticed, which is incredibly important for students looking to learn to read, speak, and write like a native. Aside from her teaching prowess, Fumiko is incredibly patient and understanding of busy schedules and such. I took lessons with her for my entire first year of college during which Fumiko was quite cognizant and respectful of my work load. She also helped me locate good placed to meet to have lessons, which was especially useful for me, someone brand new to Seattle. Overall, Fumiko is an excellent and knowledgeable tutor whom I would recommend to anyone wishing to take private Japanese lessons in the Seattle area. :)

A friend and I recently studied Japanese with Fumiko. We are beginner students and were looking to continue our studies after a group class we had attended became unavailable. Fumiko was quickly able to get us back up to speed, revisiting materials we needed to review and even elaborating on some topics to improve our knowledge. She sent summaries of all of our lessons, calling out specific points to study or review in our materials. She also discussed any topics we were curious about or interested in, and even got us both started with reading and writing kanji. Fumiko introduced us to new, helpful learning materials as we went, making it easier for us to learn. She was also very flexible, working with our schedules to arrange a convenient time and place to meet. Studying with Fumiko was fun and engaging; I learned a lot and also felt encouraged to keep learning. If you're studying Japanese, I highly recommend Fumiko!

Very responsive and accommodating when scheduling lessons, being a working professional my schedule would change sometimes at last minutes notice, was very easy to get ahold of and work out.
