Competent and Caring

I am a retired teacher with over 40 years of experience educating and motivating young people. I have a background in working with diverse populations. The tutoring experience is customized for the tutee's individual needs. I can help with reading, writing, math, study skills, test prep, and most content subject areas. I do substitute teaching during the school year to keep myself abreast with what students are facing in schools today....

ADD/ADHD

I am qualified to teach children with the diagnosis of ADD and ADHD because I have an extensive background in Special Education. My undergrad degree is in Educational Psychology with a minor in Special Education. I am a licensed certified WI teacher in the area of Cognitive Disabilities from grades K5 through Secondary. I have over 40 years of experience teaching and motivating students of all ages. I have been involved in cross-categorical education for many many years. I was fortunate to have a daughter diagnosed with ADD and advocated for her accommodations and education through high school. I am a Parent Volunteer Leader for WI FACETS, an organization that helps parents understand the special education maze and how to best get what their children need to be successful students. I have worked with many students with ADD/ADHD in my career. I am a parent of an ADD/ADHD child and know first hand the trials and tribulations parenting a child with this disability. I am very well aware of the characteristics and the kinds of supports that can help these students be successful. Statistics show that many of these young people end up unemployed, in jail, on drugs or alcohol. This is a statistic I try to help not to proliferate by educating their families, their teachers, and themselves on their greatness. As St. Francis of Assisi said,"All children can learn if we learn how to teach them."

Ms. Annette is extremely patient with my daughter and invested in her academic progress and success. As a result of tutoring for only two weeks, my daughter has shown more confidence in her reading abilities. She takes more pride in reading and gets excited about reading again. Her ELA instructor have also communicated that she has witnessed progress reading in her reading skills as well as a shift in her classroom behaviors as a result of an increase in confidence.
