I've advocated and been behavior therapist and teacher to my son who is diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. My experience with autism exists on many levels. I worked as a community-based therapist for children with autism. In that position I had ongoing state-required training in all aspects of autism and therapeutic approaches. I successfully completed continuing education courses in Autism Spectrum Disorders, including Intro to Autism and Educational Perspectives. I also worked as Assistant Editor and Writer for the Autism Asperger's Digest. On a more personal level, I'm a single mom with a son on the autism spectrum. I've spent years researching and studying so I could be his advocate. I was also his special education teacher for 3 years when we homeschooled under the supervision of the local school district. I've also extensively worked with my son as a home therapist, implementing behavioral therapies under the guidance of professional psychologists.
